For one thing, being organized helps you find things. This can be a huge time-saver! Knowing where things are saves time and frustration.

Did you know lost items can have a ripple effect? It’s true. If you’re so distracted over the lost item, you may end up forgetting even more.

Being surrounded by unorganized clutter can, according to some experts, have an effect on the brain that is not unlike that incurred from trauma. Your brain finds clutter stressful, in other words, and responds with such negative feelings as anger, depression, and frustration.

Clutter is hard to clean. Dirt and dust accumulate around and between cluttered objects, making for a rather unhealthy environment. And if you have pets, animal hair can find its way in and among disorganized objects, which may set the stage for allergies.

Another thing to consider is insect pests. Bugs like silverfish like to get in among books and other paper clutter to make their homes. Other vermin like clutter as well, such as mice and even cockroaches.

Organizing and cleaning go hand-in-hand; you can’t have one without the other! So getting things organized can minimize these unhealthy conditions.

Another way that organizing your home contributes to health is with regard to meals. If you are organizing and planning your family’s meals, they are likely to be a lot healthier than if you are grabbing something last-minute from the drive-through or freezer.

It is actually pretty crazy if you ask me how one simple incident like not being able to find your keys can set your mood for the entire day. But it happens daily to many folks around the world.

Keeping your home clean, neat, and organized can definitely play a role in your happiness for sure. It has been scientifically proven that physical clutter, clutters our minds.

It steals our focus away from what really matters. So yes! Absolutely, organized people are happier. Unless of course it someone who ocd then in that case they may not be very happy because they don’t have total control.

Can Organizing Impact Your Mental Health?

Clutter can absolutely impact your physical health so it can impact your mental health just the same.

When you have piles of laundry or a To Do List and you aren’t sure where to start you can easily fall into a depression. Or in some cases become stressed out.

So stressed out that even simple task send you over the edge.

Organization is not a cure all for anxiety or stress. It can however be extremely helpful in keeping anxiety levels down. Simply being able to find find things can help you stay more relaxed.

Being unorganized can make life tough in a number of ways. Disorganization in your home can cause an unending, overall sense of stress, because you’re lacking a certain amount of order in your life.

It also causes unsightly clutter and makes it hard to find things.

The good news is that with some easy home organization tips, you can have your home whipped into shape in no time. It may seem like an impossible task right now, but when broken down into smaller projects, organization is inevitable.

Try these simple organization tips:

Get rid of your clutter. There’s no use in organizing items that you’re not going to keep, so getting rid of them first is a good initial step. It’s best to live by the rule that if you haven’t used an item in over a year and it doesn’t hold sentimental value, you should probably consider letting go of it.

  • Make piles for trash, donations, and things to sell. You can use websites like eBay or Craigslist to sell unwanted items for extra cash.

Start small. It’s important to set small goals for yourself, room by room, throughout your house. When you focus on everything as a whole it can get so crazy that it might just seem like a lost cause.

  • Try starting in your bathroom, or better yet, just start by going through the cabinet underneath your bathroom sink. Throw out old items and organize the rest. Afterward, you can call it a day and then work on another small project another time.
  • As you move to new rooms, maintain the organization of the rooms you’ve already done. You don’t want to complete a few rooms only to find out that your bathroom cabinets are disorganized again.

Learn how to store things. Just because you’ve gotten your things out of sight, it doesn’t mean that you’ve got an organizational method. Plan a strategy to store similar things together in marked storage bins.

  • Once you follow through on your storage strategy, then you’ll know where things are. You can also benefit from learning how to store things in sight. Make good use of shelves, baskets, or furniture with built-in storage space to keep things neat and where you’re likely to need them.

Create a cleaning schedule. Once you have your home in order, it’s all about maintenance. You’ll need to find a way to keep things in order. Make a schedule to keep track of what chores are done and when. You can even schedule in a time to deal with clutter to get everything back into its proper place.

  • Dividing up the cleaning tasks throughout the week will make it easier to maintain the order you worked so hard to attain. This limits “chore time” to short increments of time. Instead of spending an entire Saturday cleaning,
  • Establish the habit of picking up as you go. When you take something out of its place to use it, put it back when you’re done.
